Mobile Message Marketing Demystified

Mobile Messaging:  How  to get your message to millions
(33:56 min)

Blogging and Beyond with The Blog Squad, Patsi Krakoff, Psy. D., and Denise Wakeman
With Guest Expert: Russell Morgan, Founder, ITSPA

I have to confess that I do not text message. I don't have kids and I get really annoyed when I receive a random text message and then I have to pay to receive it. However, millions of people do text message all the time and if you cater to that market -- young consumers -- you need to pay attention to this marketing opportunity.

Our guest, Russell Morgan, clarified some of the ins and outs of mobile message marketing, gave us examples of how it's being used, and why companies need to pay attention to this emerging trend. At this point it's pretty expensive, but you know, when it becomes ubiquitous, the costs will come down.

Check out Russell Morgan's sites at GroupieTunes, ITSPA and AppliedSB.

With Guest Expert: James Gaskin, Technology is Broken and Gaskin.com

Our conversation with James Gaskin was enlightening. He took us through the basics of open source software with examples like the Firefox browser and Thunderbird email client from Mozilla. For the most part, open source software is free for the consumer which can mean big savings.

One of the biggest software expenses is usually Microsoft Office at several hundred dollars. However, the open souce version, Open Office, is considered to be equal if not better and it's FREE. To get a powerful suite of design, productivity, Internet, and networking tools, go to theopencd.org.

Book Publishing Options Pros and Cons

How to Get Your Book in Print Without Breaking the Bank
(33:25 min)

Blogging and Beyond with The Blog Squad, Patsi Krakoff, Psy. D., and Denise Wakeman
With Guest Expert: Adam Witty, CEO of Advantage Media Group

Our interview with Adam Witty about various publishing options was enlightening. First, in a recent survey, 88% of Americans said they want to srite a book before they die! If that were to happen, there would be a heck of a lot of niche books on the market and Witty recommended (and we agree) that everyone should read The Long Tail by Chris Anderson.

Adam Witty went on to identify the pros and cons of traditional, self, and print on demand publishing options. Really, the way you go, depends on your objectives, your budget and IF you can get a major publisher to pick up your manuscript. Before you make a decision about publishing, listen to this interview to get an overview of your options.

Tips to drive leads online with offline marketing

Save and Simplify: Merge Your Online and Offline Marketing Tactics for Better Results
(31:48 min)

Blogging and Beyond with The Blog Squad, Patsi Krakoff, Psy. D., and Denise Wakeman
With Guest Expert: Janis Pettit, owner of SmarTrack and http://www.smallbusiness-bigresults.com/

Janis Pettit share some great tips about how to generate leads to your website (to capture email) using offline marketing strategies.  A few tips included:

  1. Put print classified ads in highly targeted publications sending people to a free download
  2. Put a bumpersticker on your car with your URL (Patsi liked this one!)
  3. Run a contest and send a press release to local news outlets. This is particuarly good for business with local customers

The most important thing though: you must have a compelling website or blog that addresses the problems of your target client.  Without that, no one will give your their email address.

10 Minutes a Day is All it Takes

From Class to Cash: getting the most of business and marketing events
(33:26 min)

Blogging and Beyond with The Blog Squad, Patsi Krakoff, Psy. D., and Denise Wakeman
Guest Expert: Rory Cohen, co-founder Entelekey, Inc. and Take10Now.com

Have you ever attended a workshop or seminar, gotten really excited about what you learned, took tons of notes and then got home and ... nothing happened.  You're overwhelmed, paralyzed, stalled, and nothing changes.  Not your life, not your income, not your business.

Rory Cohen, Take10Now.com, shared simple tips about how to prepare for events so you can get the most out of them, avoid overwhelm and then take action, in just 10 minutes a day, to achieve your goals.

I got the benefit of some of Rory's coaching around my overwhelm and guilt for not having done any follow up yet from the BlogHer conference I attended TWO WEEKS ago. One of the keys is to know what you want out of the event and focus on that priority, not all the other info coming at you. Then, review your material and take action on the stuff that supports that goal.
