The Blog Squad presents Philippa Kennealy, for your consideration...
Listen to Philippa's introduction.
My business is The Entrepreneurial MD - where physicians become thriving entrepreneurs.
As most of us know, physicians aren't savvy business people. The ugly secret many don't know is physicians are deeply frustrated.
A 2003 survey revealed that 28 percent of doctors were contemplating a career change due to the practice environment. This was 56 percent for neurosurgeons, 40 percent for OB/Gyns and 36 percent for ER doctors.
There's discontent among even doctors early in their careers.
One-quarter of residents would choose another field if they had to begin their education again, from a survey that same year. These statistics have worsened since 2003, given anecdotal reports of physician dissatisfaction with clinical practice. The thought is dismaying to anyone who’ll be a patient, - most of us - in the next twenty years. Who will we be able to entrust our health to?
As a physician formerly in practice, as well as a former hospital CEO and internet start-up EVP, I’m a certified coach - and physician entrepreneur to boot! As a result of my own passion for entrepreneurship, I’ve built The Entrepreneurial MD. Entrepreneurship represents a radical act of creativity, and a way of re-engaging with medical practice or using professional skills - sadly lacking in most physicians' lives.
My business plan combines online and offline strategies, using a product funnel. Complimentary products (report, e-course, blog, e-zine, monthly teleclasses) help my main goal to build my list. I’m ready to launch my first low-cost product, with plans for others. I’m building strategic partnerships (have a very successful one to date), and positioning myself as an expert on physician entrepreneurship through blogging (mainly for the media) and offline article placement in magazines and journals for my target market - physicians.
2007 will be spent on coaching product and service creation in keeping with my product funnel (based on Andrea Lee’s MSOCI model), in response to dialog with my target market through blog comments, e-mails and teleclass questions. My goal is a list of 1500 subscribers by the end of 2007 (My website went live at the end of 8/06 and my list went from 6 in October to 88 after my first teleclass!)
I am reasonably computer- and Internet-literate. I handle my own integrated blog/website, upload documents, audio files, images etc. I use software e.g. aWeber, Practice Pay Solutions shopping cart/merchant account (latter two with the help of a VA), SoundForge etc. And I love doing it all – I’m a very happy physician entrepreneur loving the creativity and learning my business offers.
Am I the best for your show? Hard to say as the superlative implies that I know who’s applying!! :-)
Would I be great on your show? Yes.
I’m articulate (with an English accent - originally from South Africa!), enthusiastic, hard-working, organized, comfortable with media (do public speaking professionally) and I love being “on stage” especially in a teaching setting. I can be teased, tangled with and tousled, and I’ll still have fun!
May the best candidate win.

Philipa,
Your enthusiasm is contagious, -in fact almost viral!
I appreciate the way you are thinking, your perpective review on issues present with physicians, and know that you have jumped on an enormously interesting community need that others share, physicains or not.
Physician heal thyself! Others, join the fun!
Thanks- Chuck
