The Blog Squad presents Jennifer McLean, for your consideration...
Listen to Jennifer's introduction.
As a newbie entrepreneur I am ready for some succinct advice. Even though I think I know everything, it hasn’t taken long before I have been hit with the REALITY of online marketing and starting my own business. Picture me standing, like in a 12-step program— “my name is Jennifer, I am an entrepreneur, and I need HELP.”
I am smart and very strategic having spent that last twenty years in marketing, all of which was in corporate America (mostly on the agency side). This January I decided it was time to be my own boss, so I quit my job as the VP of Strategy running the PR department for an agency. I wanted the flexibility to offer my proprietary system, “credibility branding,” and not have to change it and mold it for my employer’s approval.
After quitting my job I detoxed for a while then jumped into my consulting business as a market strategist. I also wrote my book, The Credibility Factor. The book offers a three phased approach to building a platform of credibility that influences the influencers. These influencers increase the credibility factor of a company (or product) that in turn influences customers, resulting in an increase in the speed of sales.
I have several new books coming up and some new products. One of my best products is the “credibility audit.” The audit examines perceptions to understand what the market thinks of a company’s products, and then leverages that research into messaging, content and strategies that sell!
As part of the business and book launch I put together my whole web site (I did it myself, HTML and artwork; I know just enough to be dangerous) created the sales page, got my merchant account and set up the shopping cart. Even though I know everything, and sat back waiting for the millions to come in… that is not exactly what has happened. I didn’t understand the online marketing tools and programs well enough to implement properly, so there are disparate pieces and clunkyness about what I have created. I need a mentor; a girl can only read so many manuals.
Why am I good for this promotion? Well I am a bit of a ham by nature; my father has a radio show in Canada and I have inherited a great radio voice. You can hear my “radio voice” on my sales page at www.credibilitybranding.com/credfactor.htm (just click on the player). I have been speaking for several years about my model “credibility branding,” most recently as a guest speaker for the UCI MBA program. As a media trainer I understand the concept of sound bytes and the inverted pyramid model of communications (i.e. not chatty). I am known for my sense of humor, upbeat approach and unbridled enthusiasm. I am completely committed to my new life as an entrepreneur, but I am having some doubts whether I can pull it off, this contest is exactly what I need. Oh, and have I mentioned I NEED HELP?
